Being a
family owned business, Cornelia Brooms strives
to place its customer’s needs at the top of the
list with quality products, excellent customer
service,
private label products and
products for Fundraising .
Most of the broom company employees have been
with
the company for over 20
years and the broom bag department employs
mentally
and physically challenged adults. The bag
department is a very
small portion of the business however it is
essential in that the company uses the craft
paper
bags on each bundle of brooms and bags are
shipped to various other broom manufacturers in
the USA that still use the
method of “bags on brooms”.

The broom making process
is still done much as it was in the “olden” days
when Benjamin Franklin first brought broomcorn
seeds from Europe and taught Americans how to
make brooms “on a stick”. It is a skilled
process and takes skilled individuals to “wind a
broom”.
Broomcorn has not been grown
in the States in a long time due
to the harvesting process. The
plant grows over 6 feet tall and
has to be picked by hand. CBC purchases the
broomcorn in
large bales, weighing over 200 pounds. An
additional product, yucca, was introduced into
the broom manufacturing process some years ago
and is used as
a filler product. The 100% broomcorn broom is
still the
best that money can buy, and of course is the
most expensive,
but if taken care of properly, the 100%
broomcorn broom will
outlast all others. The saying
“you get what you pay for”
is certainly true when speaking
of brooms.
